There is no single “crypto tax” answer for everyone in the UAE. The result depends on who earns the income, what activity produces it, the tax period and whether the question is about income tax, VAT or information reporting. A virtual-asset licence is a separate issue.

## What does the corporate-tax rate mean?

The ordinary UAE corporate-tax schedule applies 0% to the first AED 375,000 of **taxable income** and 9% above that band. That is not an automatic exemption for a business with revenue below AED 375,000. [Small Business Relief](https://tax.gov.ae/en/taxes/corporate.tax/corporate.tax.topics/small.business.relief.aspx) is a different, conditional regime. Registration, filing and free-zone treatment must be assessed separately.

For a natural person, the [Federal Tax Authority’s guidance](https://www.tax.gov.ae/en/taxes/corporate.tax/corporate.tax.topics/basis.of.taxation.natural.person.aspx) uses an AED 1 million annual turnover threshold for business or business activities. Wages, personal investment income and real-estate investment income are treated separately. Calling every crypto gain “tax-free” skips the essential classification question.

## Is a crypto transaction exempt from VAT?

The FTA’s [VAT Public Clarification VATP040](https://tax.gov.ae/Datafolder/Files/Pdf/2025/VATP040%20-%20Amendments%20to%20VAT%20ER%20-%2014%2003%202025.pdf) addresses the transfer of ownership and conversion of virtual assets, including the effective date of the specified exemption. It does not say that every custody, advisory, platform or other crypto-related service is VAT-exempt. Analyse the actual supply.

## When does CARF reporting start?

The [UAE Ministry of Finance’s CARF page](https://mof.gov.ae/en/public-finance/international-relations/automatic-exchange-of-information-aeoi-crypto-asset-reporting-framework-carf/) says reporting is expected to begin in 2027 and first exchanges in 2028, subject to implementation and exchange relationships. That timetable is for reporting crypto-asset information; it is not a new tax rate or a promise that information will be exchanged automatically with a fixed number of countries.

## What records should you keep?

Keep entity and tax-residency records, wallet and exchange histories, transaction values, the nature of each receipt or supply, counterparty records where required, and the accounting method used. Reconcile those records before filing or responding to a reporting request. A business crossing multiple jurisdictions should obtain tax advice on its specific facts.
